In the Beginning
The Story of Creation
"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
Genesis 1:27
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.
Day by day, God shaped the world with purpose and love. He created the vast sky, gathered the waters to reveal dry land, and filled the earth with plants and trees bearing fruit. He set the sun, moon, and stars in the sky to mark the seasons and give light.
God filled the seas with fish and the skies with birds. He created every kind of animal that walks on the ground. And then, as the crown of His creation, God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us."
So God created man and woman. He blessed them and gave them the responsibility to care for the earth and all its creatures. God looked at everything He had made, and it was very good. On the seventh day, God rested from His work and made it holy.
